Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker survives recall election

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker beat back a recall challenge Tuesday, winning both the right to finish his term and a voter endorsement of his strategy to curb state spending, which included the explosive measure that eliminated union rights for most public workers. The rising Republican star becomes the first governor in U.S. history to survive a recall attempt with his defeat of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the union leaders who rallied for months against his agenda.

A pair of Green Bay Packers are doing their small part to move the chains for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in today’s Wisconsin recall election. As Raw Story reports, tight end Jermichael Finley and wide receiver Tori Gurley tweeted their support Monday for the recall effort, which seeks to unseat the only man to overshadow the Packers’ 2011 Super Bowl victory in Wisconsin — Gov. Scott Walker.

Finley and Gurley aren’t the first Packers to support collective bargaining rights — which Walker has focused on limiting — nor are they unfamiliar with the role of unions. A players’ union battle with team owners almost axed the 2011 NFL season.

Baseball Phenom Bryce Harper Is Like Barack Obama And John F. Kennedy, According To The Financial Times

Bryce Harper, MLB

Bryce Harper has been pretty good for the Washington Nationals so far in his rookie campaign. He’s shown he has all five tools: power, contact, speed, a good glove and a strong throwing arm…It is best, therefore, to enjoy phenoms while they last and hope they mature and endure. Politics is like that, too. Barack Obama was definitely one four years ago and in November we will learn if he still is. John Kennedy’s comet was hit by a bullet before it had the chance to endure…So if Harper “endures” who will he be like? History is littered with young phenoms who endured – for example, Genghis Khan, William Pitt the Younger and Fidel Castro. All left their marks, for good and ill.
